Minasan ohayou gozaimasu! *^^*
You guessed it, once again I'm greeting my visitors in Japanese! n_n; This time around, I'm using the formal version of 'Good morning, everyone!' to address you all in a respectful manner. ((Er, even though it's early evening as I type this. But I'm sure it's the morning somewhere, right ...? J_J; That's the magic of the Bloggernetz, after all!))
If you'd like to use this greeting yourself, but you're not sure how it's pronounced, no worries! I've created an MP3 of myself enunciating the phrase just for this purpose, which you can listen to by clicking here. ^^
Once you've memorised the greeting, ((Replaying it and/or repeating it aloud multiple times should help,)) Go ahead and impress your friends with your newfound knowledge of Japanese!*
But before you run off to wow your friends, check out mallorymaloney.com's latest updates! Trust me, you don't want to miss out, 'cause there's quite a few good ones this week. ^_~
Firstly, I updated the Handwriting page with a new example of my handwriting! Now, I realise this seems a little redundant, considering I only just released a font based on my handwriting last week, but it was in dire need of an update --- The previous example looked a little different from my current writing style, you see. Since I was about ten or eleven, I've always dotted my lowercase 'I's and 'J's with tiny 'O's ... But since I now feel that tiny 'O's are no longer my style, I've begun training myself to dot aforementioned lowercase letters with tiny 'X's, instead --- Hence the updated Handwriting page! The moar you know, amirite?
Next up, a brand new page has been added to the Photography section, entitled Sickly Rainbow. The shots included on the page are gorgeous, but, as the title suggests, in an interestingly despondent sort of way ... So be sure to click on over!
A small handful of about five new quotes were added to the Family's Funny Quotes page --- But while the update itself was small, I assure you that the lolfactor is pleasantly large.
And in other site news, since I reopened mallorymaloney.com on 13 October 2008, and unveiled the fact that I had begun using WordPress, during that timespan I've received over one thousand comments! In celebration, I've made the one thousandth commenter an award to commemorate this marvellous event. ^o^
Click the thumbnail below to see the award in actual size ... And be sure to visit Janice's site and congratulate her on posting mallorymaloney.com's one thousandth comment! ^^;
And before we go on to the blog segment of this week's entry, I'd like to mention one more sitely item of interest: The new layout I've been working on. As you guys might recall, I was originally hoping I'd have it finished before Christmas --- But considering Christmas is now only nine days away, and the layout's only thirty percent completed at best, I'm starting to realise that it's not going to be done until January of 2010, at the very least.
I apologise if this is disappointing news to anyone, but I figured it's better to announce this as opposed to simply not mentioning it at all! At least this way, it's just a single bit of disappointing news ... Instead of multiple disappointments as you constantly check back, expecting to see a new look appear at any given moment. #_#;
However, if you're still feeling a bit 'Son, I am disappoint', then I suggest you click the thumbnail below to check out my family's beautifully lit Christmas tree ... Its pretty blue and white colour scheme should certainly help erase those feelings of disgruntlement!
... Er, although decorating the Christmas tree is just the type of thing I've been working on that keeps pushing the release date of the new layout back ... So, in all actuality, I'm not sure how much its prettiness will help your disgruntledousity overall.
Perhaps an abrupt change of subject is in order. >_>;
In last week's entry, I mentioned that I often get stared at simply for dressing the way I always dress. It's happened so often, in fact, that over time, it's simply become the norm for me ... Just as it is for Pierce, a main character in the Zits comic strip. o_o;
On one hand, this can be a very good thing, because it means I no longer pay any heed to ninety percent of the negative attention I get ... Unless the attention is mildly traumatising, like with the stares of the perverted old man I talked about last week. But even in cases like this, this most I do is give them the finger and/or a death glare.
On the other hand, this is a pretty sad fact, because it means that the only way you can survive dressing even the slightest bit differently from everyone else is to train yourself to basically become desensitised. And this bothers me, because really, why should anyone have to go to such extremes simply to wear something that isn't currently 'in'? This isn't the seventeen hundreds, and there's no excuse for society to continue to behave as if it is.
Nowadays, the average person should be able to express their own individuality through their wardrobe without fearing negative attention --- But the way everyone is still so uptight about what's acceptable and what isn't tells me that this will probably never happen.
For example, I was reading an article just the other day about the editor of a fashion magazine, and said editor mentioned that she can't even wear red lipstick out of the house without feeling intensely nervous. In my opinion, this kind of skittish behaviour only strengthens society's animosity toward people who dress differently.
I mean, honestly --- What is the general population supposed to think when they read that the editor of a popular fashion magazine can't wear something as basic as red lipstick outside the safety of her home ...?
Another example of this behaviour is when people approach me both online and off, saying things like, 'Oh, wow! I love your outfit so much ... I sure wish I could dress like that.'
Excuse me ...? You wish?
For fuck's sake, people, you can dress like that! Don't longingly say, 'Oh, I wish,' as if wearing red and black striped socks is as unobtainable as your childhood dream to become a fucking astronaut when you grow up --- Just go buy a pair of red and black striped socks and then put them on your motherfucking feet!
Wish fucking granted!
And hey, it looks like your other wish has been granted, as well, because I do believe you've become an astronaut! Oh ... Wait, hang on. It seems I've made a bit of a mistake. You haven't become an astronaut, after all --- You're just acting like a fucking space cadet!
Whoops. My bad. =_=
*If you're afraid that using Japanese around your friends will cause them to laugh and point at you whilst shouting things like, 'LOL WEEABOO', 'LMAO WAPANESE', or 'ROTFL JAPANOPHILE', then I suggest you get new friends. New friends who aren't narrow minded assholes. ^_^

fantastic. i love it when you rant on. and on.
congrats on the 1000 comments!! that's amazing! but they are well deserved!
and yeah i cant believe that people still give others heck about how they dress in this day and age. and from what *I'VE* seen your outfits are adorable and not crazy at all! i mean, i've been to goth clubs and shows where sometimes people wear stuff made entirely out of electrical tape, so yeah. just dont let those losers stop you from dressing how you like >:-E
rock on!
You and your Japanese greetings, Mallory! Gosh! I'm getting all overloaded with the amount I learn from this website ;D
Nice to see a few updates, and the fact that you're still sticking to blogging every week; this makes me immensely happy, and I could never be disappointed. The blue and white Christmas tree makes me too mellow! Mine is sort of red and gold lighted, very festive.
It pisses me off that people glare at you cause of the way you dress; you don't actually dress that outrageously. Are people really that narrow-minded over there? You'd get more leeway here. People stare at me for the way I dress, but I'm way past caring now. I'm so used to getting dirty looks that it's pleasant when people come up to me and say "I love your outfit/hair/etc!" it brightens my day.
Anywhore, I enjoyed this blog, like I enjoy your other blogs. And I'm glad the new layout is taking so long cause I know it'll be lush! The problem with me updating my layouts quickly is that.. Well, they're shit X__X
-- Kayleigh
P.S. You got 1000 comments in about a year. I haven't even gotten 1000 comments in nearly three years of blogging. Probably haven't even got a hundred. Sometimes I wonder why I bother updating so much; it seems that hardly anyone reads :(
Your tree is so pretty! The one at my house is extremely nerdtastic. lol. The ornaments are a mixture of Jesus, Star Trek, family heirlooms, and Harry Potter. ;D
I totally agree with you about dressing the way you want, too, and I admire you for doing what you want, regardless of what other people think. Not everyone is that brave, which is a shame. My own style isn't as eccentric as yours, but I do love crazy prints and patterns on shoes and accessories. I'm especially partial to anything rainbow and/or glittery (I have a wallet that is both!). XD
I HATE HATE HATE the way people have prejudices against everything outside the norm! Oddly enough at work people always compliment my clothes but far from everyone are that nice. I've had people ask me if I dress the way I do to get attention, I've been called immature, a teenager and a Satanist. One guy told me he'd never hire someone with my facial piercings and of course my parents think I dress like a 16 year old. The older I get the worse it gets because people think that by now I should have grown out of my "alternative phase" and dress like a "mature adult". Because eeeeeveryone knows that maturity is in the clothes!
Unfortunately for many people it is a phase and even more unfortunately some people change when they grow older, not because they want to but because they no longer dare to dress the way they want to.
You rock Mallory! Continue being yourself! People above 20 who still dress alternative are cool!
Love the Christmas tree btw! I like when things don't have many colours. In my book you should never ever combine more than two or a maximum of three colours. My parents Christmas tree have all the colours of the rainbow and a couple more! It's their style but I prefer simplicity. And blue is such a lovely colour. <3
My favourite Japanese sentence is 'Anata wa inu no kuso o tabemasu' (You eat dog shit!). It's the only thing that really stuck in my tiny brain from my two years of Japanese at high school. Obviously I have the brain capacity for immature shit, but not for things that will actually help me later on in life! Haha.
I have no love for anyone who dresses according to fashion or what's acceptable in society. They're all fucking sheep. I would much rather befriend someone wearing a corset and striped socks than I would someone wearing a fitted blouse and grey pencil skirt...
Congrats on the 1000 comments! I'm sorry for the delay in your layout, but your tree is really pretty! Anywho, I agree with you about the clothing thing. People just need to grow up and realize they are living in modern times. In high school every month i died my hair a different color (blue, green, etc), and wore alternative clothing. I got a lot of stares, but most people liked me. though my Chours teacher punished me for having orange and green hair around a concert and yelled at me until I had an anxiety attack. *ass hole* I don't dress to alternatively now because I'm too lazy. So i just stick to bright colored pants that don't need a lot of preparation. LOL.
Silly girl, I'm from Canada ;o Just like you. Damn America.
I love to argue though. Especially when people are stupid like that. It's so easy.
I suppose people can say wish and just don't dress like that. Maybe the style doesn't work for them, clothes don't fit right, or they just don't have a store that sells that type. Lame excuses, I know, but still things that work. I know where I live all we have for stores is Walmart and Lazor. So I doubt we could buy anything like you wear in those stores. Haha. Cause I would. I hate clothing thats 'in' but I really don't have a choice unless I come to Ontario myself.
I think the main part of the stares or whatever is that deep down those people are a little intimidated that someone is brave enough to dress how they want and not care what other people think, or seemingly not care. It takes balls to express the true you with no filters and all the ball-less ones like to try to belittle you.
Lovely Xmas tree! Mine kinda looked like that until my son started taking the glass balls off of it and smashing them on the floor, now just the top half has balls. :D
I liked your Japanese intro :) and your families tree looks really pretty :)
Awww, your tree is so gorgeous! I love it. <3
Thanks for your comment! I wasn't drunk drunk but I was pretty tipsy, hahaha. And yay! Leos from Ontario! (:
What part are you from?
WOOO, congratulations on the onethousaaaand comments! :D
AMG, that rainbow is freakin' GORGEOUS. <3 I love the way the trees sit in front of it... Not that trees sit any other way, but, ya know. o_o;
I know what you mean about the whole wearing what you like clothing thing - it's awesome that you just wear whatever you like! :D I where whatever I like aswell, but my wardrobe isn't that 'interesting' as I blow all my money on crap like magazines and CD's (well, CD's aren't crap but... still!) ..But if I had the money and the wardrobe, I'd still just where whatever cos I really don't care what people think about!
The above paragraph made no sense whatsoever but OH WELL. LOL, I also love the sentance 'Just go buy a pair of red and black striped socks and then put them on your motherfucking feet!' ...it made me LOL. XD
PAHAHAHA LOL. Your family's funny quotes never fail to make me laugh, now I really AM curious to know the reason of why ladybugs and called ladybugs... DAMN, this is gonna annoy me all day now! I. MUST. KNOW.
You know what, you would look good under my tree on Christmas morning, just an idea :).
ILY MALLORY XD
I totally understand how people always seem to stare whenever you dress different from what most of the society thinks is "normal". A lot of people do that to me too. I never really cared much about it though. I just hate it when people label me. People are just so weird nowadays D: What's really annoying is how my mom notices that I dress differently from most people. Apparrently, she thinks I'm going through some sort of goth or emo phase.
Oh and BTW your Christmas tree is georgeous!! ^^ I love how it's illuminated in the blue light. Very pretty!! :D
AMG AMGGGG.
I know I already commented but I feel the need to comment again to tell you that
YOUR CARD ARRIVEDDDD.
YAYAYAYAYAYYYYY.
It's GORGEOUS, I love how it is all sparkly and everything... HOLYSHIT that sentance sounded crap but I don't know what to say, LOL.
I'm an idiot and only sent out your card YESTERDAY, so it'll probably be late. ;_; Sorrrrrrry! But at least you'll get it, even if it doesn't get there by Christmas lol. Sorry again and THAAAANK YOOOU! ^____^
Of course I don't mind! (:
300 is a lot, but I don't blame ya. It's way too easy to buy everything and anything you want while shopping online. Hahah I always do stuff like that as well. There was this special at this store, and they had these notebook / diary things that were $10 cheaper than usual, so I went a head and bought 4 of them. I haven't used any of them yet, because I'm too scared I'll mess them up.
You should (: I like reading makeup blogs. It's not that I'm superficial or anything... I've just been really into makeup lately... even though I don't even wear that much. Lol. I currently have the 88 matte, and the blush and contour palette (: And I love them. So I just ordered a 32 lip palette, a blush palette, and a 88 warm palette. There I go end... I don't think my card will ever get a rest "/ Lol
I love your handwriting :D I think it'd look totally cute on Kawaii stationary. lol
Your christmas tree is so pretty! Ours is so ugly and blehhh. My mum likes to buy ugly decorations >.<
I too think it's so stupid when people think it's strange for people to be wearing 'different' clothing. I think it's good that people have an individual style. I go to an all-girls school, and on non-uniform days I'll see about 20 girls wearing the exact same tights, and 20 other girls wearing the exact same hoodie o_o. But there are girls who wear 'different' clothing at my school, and a lot other people actually really admire them. It's just that some people don't really know how to put outfits together that they actually like.
I got no card/10
Reply From Mallory:
Aww, but you were included in the mass eMail I sent out asking if you wanted one!
Some lovely new pieces of photography you have posted ^^
Wow, a very lovely Christmas tree you and your family has put up ^^ Unfortunately, my family has never really been into the 'Christmas spirit'
-_- I've had my fair share of perverts staring at me. Very disturbing. Next time I will definitely give them the finger rather than just walk away in disgust.
I guess some things just don't change. Some people in society seem to lack in common courtesy, or were never told that it's rude to stare.
haha you do humour me a lot Mallory. It does confuse me as to why people don't do (or in this case wear) what they want because they're afraid of what society will do to them.
I don't see why people insult others speaking Japanese. Globalisation is happening and so is selective education, so I don't see why people either keep their mouth shut if they don't have anything kind to say. Again with the common courtesy.
Yay japenese - a language i've always wanted to learn but I'm too busy too...
I dot my i's and j's with o's to, it used to really annoy my teachers in Primary school. :p
You're christmas tree looks really pretty.
Wow, lots of updates, I'll check them out later. Need to finish returning comments first, haha.
Aww, shame about the layout. I don't usually plan when I'm going to get a layout up, 'cause it often doesn't work out. I'm looking forward to it anyway. Good luck with that!!
Nice Christmas tree!! I decorated mine last night, but it's no where near as colour co-ordinated as yours. Ours is just a mish-mash of random things haha. That makes it quite unique though.
I can't stand some fashion magazines. I mean, some of the stuff that's in fashion is bloody awful and I wouldn't want to wear it ever. I love going out in fancy dress. I remember on my birthday this year we all wore party hats round town, and I was 17 so everyone kept looking at us like 'wtf??' It was quite amusing actually. And I stood out the most with a huge badge and a birthday sash on, haha.
By the way my site's on revamp/hiatus until January 1st. Have a great Christmas!!
xx
I love the pictures of the rainbow, it's so beautiful! And your family's Christmas tree is lovely as well :)
I agree that people should be able to dress the way they want without being criticized for it. I have that problem with my parents. They think that because I wear jeans and band t-shirts, I'm not normal. Fuck that. I will wear what I want. I'm 27 years old, not 15.
Wow over 1000 comments? I don't even think I have that many and I have been running a blog since 2005 I believe, so congratulations.
Your families Christmas tree looks good :] The lights are so peerrdy ^_^ I love decorating Christmas trees, I tryyy to make it look just like the box XP
Lol fashion is such a touchy subject with some people, everyone has their own style to be honest, everyones different, so I dislike it when people make fun of other cos of what that person has chosen to wear - as if it effects them!? Jeez..
Haha, next time I buy socks I will remember your instructions on using them, even if they aren't red and stripped. Seriously, if people don't think they can where them, they don't deserve them :)
beautiful Christmas tree. I like the star lit up at the top.
Ooh, can't wait to see your new layout! I was actually wondering just before scrolling to read the blog when you would put up your next layout.
So, since you have your own style, do you have any special Christmas outfit or holiday outfit?
I used to feel the same way only my thing was skinny jeans. I saw them everywhere and wanted to wear them so bad. I was scared, but I went out, bought a pair, and then wore them out. WHOA!! I don't understand why people don't just try out new things with fashion and beauty. why not? Screw the haters!!
Thank you, also, for commenting on my blog. I'm so glad you liked the health/fitness section. I poured my heart, blood, and soul into that section!!
Hey Mallory! Yes, I have had my site in many forms over the years - I'm amazed you remember!
The rainbow is stunning, and a great point on dressing differently. However, I think it's sad that people are scared of attracting attention. I think you have great style - keep rocking it! Me, I have a penchant for hats and vintage bits and bobs and love flaunting them!
Great, humourous blog, as always!
Sod's fucking law, Mallory! The day I decide I'm going to sleep for hours and get some actual rest, is the day your parcel turned up!
I woke up to Liam knocking on my door, saying that one of those 'you weren't in' forms had been posted through the letterbox. I can't pick the bloody thing up til tomorrow, and it's in Wootton Bassett which is like half an hour away. What a fucking palava X___X
In any case, I basically have your parcel now, and I hope mine turns up at your house soon. xx
Aw, thank you so much. :D
Those Xiao Xioa animations sound cute! I'll have to remember to watch them one day.
I like how you have started to dot your I's and J's with little X's. It's really unique, and very "you". It seems like it would take an annoyingly long time to dot each letter then, though. =/ I just dot my I's and J's with little dots, because it's the fastest. :P
Still, the X's are cool.
Woo, congratulations on receiving one thousand comments! That's quite an accomplishment. ;)
Well no matter when you end up finishing your new layout, I'm sure it will be awesome. I can't wait to see it! Good luck finishing it.
Your Christmas tree looks so beautiful! I adore it.
I get what you mean about desensitizing yourself to people's opinions of your outfits. I often dress in a way that's different from the way people usually dress too, and I have come not to care what others think. :) I think that's mostly a good thing, though I guess you're right that it is kind of a sad fact.
I agree one hundred percent; people should be able to express themselves however they want without feeling pressure to dress a certain way!
Mallory! My sincere apologies for returning your comment unacceptably late. I love and enjoy reading your lengthy blogs and seeing as I had blocks of time that didn't seem sufficient enough to read the entire length of your blog (work, chores, brother being a pain sometimes), I decided not to until now! (Just had my last work day of the year.)
But in a quick reply to your comment, which I am recalling from the top of my head - that woman, for once, did not sit next to me on the bus.
But what I found incredibly amusing was the process by which she chose a seat to sit in for the duration of her trip. She proceeded to look at three empty seats in a row on one side of the bus. She was about to sit in one, then changed her mind. Then she looked in the seat behind that and was also about to sit, but then changed her mind and sat in a seat on the other side of the bus.
After packing her wallet away and whatnot, she got up AGAIN and looked in the two seats she had previously looked in before, before sitting in one.
What lunacy is that?
Anyway...
I love your writing; it is very neat and cute. Ohayou gozaimasu, by the way! Having learned Japanese for years in high school, the phrase is all too familiar.
I had a teacher in grade eight who severely hated us drawing circles on the tops of our letter i's when we wrote. I once wrote like that to piss her off. :D
Those sickly rainbow photographs really have some essence in them. They're gorgeous!
Congratulations on getting 1000 comments, and congratulations to Janice!
I seriously laugh at the time you had that whole surprise thing going on on your site and you showed the progress on that meter. Yes, I visited your site around that time, and I totally remember that black layout you had with the cute skulls. :D
THAT'S IT. VERSION THIRTY SEVEN. :D
I love your tree! It's beautiful! And never you mind, I can sure as hell wait around until January for a layout. :3
Oh girl you are absolutely right. No need to wish, just DO!
I wrote about this in my previous blog. You shouldn't care about what other think; you should wear what you want.
My relatives seem to think that the way I dress is slightly intimidating. It's usually quite loud or hardcore or quirky. I like it like that. My mum thinks I give everyone the impression that I'm a badass bitch. D: But then again who cares. People should be allowed to dress how they want and make a fucking statement with their clothing, yo.
I've revamped my site :] How are you?
I meant Florence from Florence and the Machine has great legs. Not Temper Trap guy. I hope you didn't google him and think I was a freak for liking his legs. LOL. LOL. LOL.
Callum is a pretty damn good boyfriend. :D And I don't think marriage would be my thang. It's quite scary if you think about it...you'd be stuck to a person...forEVER...even if that was Callum, I'd still don't think I'd like that. I don't really understand marriage. Like you can be with someone you love forever, you don't have to get married to prove it. But who knows!
I love fashion but I hate it at the same time...if that even makes sense. I think trends are stupid, and when people are like "I can't wear this anymore because it's so last season" or "I have to buy this because it's in and vogue says I should!" NO. Wear what you want! Who cares if it hasn't been "IN" since the 1880s! If you like it and you're comfortable wearing it, WEAR IT! I completely totally absolutely 100% agree with you - people should be able to wear what they want and express their personalities how they want. Who cares what others think!
I wish I would've read that email >.<
