Hello, darklings! ^x^

So. o_o

How much d'you all love the new term of endearment I invented?! >w<; Personally, I'm quite proud of it --- If only because it popped into my head in such an out of the blue manner! It happened while I was having a shower last night, when it suddenly dawned on me that I didn't have an opener planned for this week's Updates/Blog entry.

Cursing myself and washing my armpits with more vehemence than before, I began racking my brain, trying to recall if I had any backup openers reserved for use in these types of emergency situations. Since I'm the type of chick who leaves everything 'til the last possible minute, though, it wasn't surprising when I concluded that I had exactly zero emergency openers.

For fuck's sake, I thought to myself, Why do I always leave this shit 'til the last second?! Now I'm going to have to go with a an annoyingly average opener like 'Hello, everyone!' My visitors don't want to read an entry that starts with 'Hello, everyone!'

And yet, as I scrubbed my face with my homemade exfoliator and moisturiser duo, ((More on that later!)) I found that I simply couldn't come up with anything else whatsoever. My mind was a complete blank ... Which, again, wasn't surprising at all, as this is how my brain always reacts when I need it to make a split decision. I sighed, knowing that I was simply going to have to greet everyone with a boring 'Hello, darklings!' and just be done with it.

I nodded to myself in a resigned sort of way as I turned my face into the stream of water and began to rinse the exfoliator/moisturiser off. Yep, I said to myself, I guess my visitors'll just have to deal with the fact that I can't always come up with something completely uniq ---

Here, I had to resist opening my eyes and mouth in an extraordinarily wide fashion, as this is what one is usually compelled to do when they're struck by amazement over the awesome that is themselves. However, due to the fact that a stream of water was pummelling directly onto my face at the time, I thought better of it, and instead celebrated my genius internally.

Oh my fuckin' God, I shrieked inside my head, I totally just came up with a greeting and formulated a new word at the same time ... Without even meaning to! I grinned to myself in a satisfied sort of way, my mood instantly lifted. 'Hello, darklings!' it is! I decided happily.

Hopefully, you all like 'darklings' as much as I do, 'cause I think it might just become one of my new catchwords, bwahaha! >w<;

Enough about that, though ... Onto this week's updates! *^^*

The Japanese Text Based Emoticons page got a serious overhaul! I added over twenty new emoticons and accompanying descriptions, edited several older emoticon descriptions for better accuracy, and re listed the entire page so similar emoticons are now grouped together.

The Emo Kids page was updated with one new doll. I know a single doll isn't much of an update, but I spent close to forty minutes perfecting each and every pixel! x_X; Kinda defeats the purpose of using dollmakers, but I refuse to just throw together a bunch of random props and then call it a doll --- Thats just lame. When I use dollmakers, each and every prop has to be carefully chosen, tested for matchability, pieced together just so, and then the whole thing has to be painstakingly edited to my vision of perfection. It takes a lot of effort, but in my opinion, it's worth it!

The Wishlist page was updated with an assload of new materialistic items I've decided I simply can't live without, including circle lenses, a Japanese school bag, and the April 2010 issue of a gay and lesbian lifestyle magazine called 'Out'. If you're puzzled as to why I'd want such items, then be sure to check out the page for explanations! ^_~

Now then, let's move onto this week's blog topic --- That homemade exfoliator and moisturiser duo I mentioned earlier! Making and using this stuff was the best decision I've ever made in regards to my skin, and needless to say, it has literally done wonders for me. Prior to using it, my face was in pretty bad condition. My cheeks, chin, and the area around my mouth were always dry, whereas my forehead, temples, and nose were always extremely oily. On top of this, I was constantly getting loads of massive pimples.

At the time, the only thing I used to wash my face with was Ivory soap ... And I was doing it at least three times a day to remove all the oil my skin was creating. But little did I know that my skin was creating all that excess oil because of the extreme drying effects of Ivory soap! +_+;

Even after discovering this, though, I simply ignored the problem, as I had decided that there was simply nothing I could do about it --- Unless I wanted to fork out loads of cash to buy expensive La Roche Posay skin care products. ((I had received several La Roche Posay products as gifts one year, and they had all helped my skin immensely ... However, I realised that there was no way I was ever going to be able to replenish the products once they ran out, upon discovering that a four once tube of cleansing cream, for example, costs over twenty dollars.))

Then, one evening a couple of months ago, I was idly browsing through all of the videos the people I was subscribed to had recently submitted, when one of Michelle Phan's new videos, entitled 'Dry Skin?' caught my eye. Intrigued, I clicked the thumbnail and began watching. In the video, Michelle demonstrated an easy, quick, and extremely cheap way to counteract the drying effects of winter weather, by the way of a homemade exfoliating/moisturising facial scrub.

When the video ended six and a half minutes later, I immediately ran down the stairs and into my kitchen, where I began frantically opening and closing cupboards in search of all the ingredients Michelle had listed in her video:

A half cup of granulated ((white)) sugar.
Three tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil.

Two tablespoons of honey.

Thankfully, we had just enough of everything to make one batch of the scrub, and so I began carefully measuring it all out, into a plastic container with a tight fitting lid. After I finished measuring out all of the ingredients, I slowly stirred the concoction until it was well mixed ... And then it was ready for a test run!

Perfect timing, as I had been planning to have a shower after I finished catching up on all my subscriptions! Plus, Michelle had recommended using the scrub at night, due to the fact that it can sometimes make your face a little shiny afterwards.

So, after washing my face with Ivory soap as usual, ((As you are supposed to cleanse your face before applying this scrub ... Or any scrub, for that matter,)) I scooped up a little bit of the scrub and began gently rubbing it into my skin, being careful not to get any into my eyes.

The first thing I noticed about the scrub was that it smelt really good ... Sort of like a batch of sugar cookie dough, LOL. The second thing I noticed was that it felt a little uncomfortably oily --- But I forced myself to get over this fact, as I knew it was only because I was used to the drying effect of Ivory soap.

After I rinsed it off, ((Being sure to leave a little excess behind for extra moisturising effects,)) And then patted my face dry with a clean towel, I immediately noticed my skin felt softer, smoother, and somehow cleaner than if I had just washed with Ivory soap --- And all this was after a single use!

Encouraged by such a good outcome, I continued to use the scrub every single day after washing my face with Ivory soap. However, I noticed that the skin around my mouth was still always super dry, which meant that I was still getting fairly large pimples in that area ... So I decided that the time had come to stop using Ivory on my face in total.

After a bit of research online about cheap alternatives to Ivory soap, I decided that I would start using Dove, instead. Immediately after making the switch from Ivory to Dove, I decided that doing so was the second best decision I've ever made in regards to my skin ... As using it in combination with the homemade exfoliator/moisturiser every single night improved my skin even more than before!

So, needless to say, I highly recommend this to anyone who has any of the problems I did. Trust me, you will not regret it! ^^; ((Remember, though, you gotta use extra virgin olive oil! This is the most important ingredient in the entire concoction, so make sure you get it right! Using anything else will simply not work ... In fact, it might make your skin even worse, so be extra careful!))

And there's one more topic I wanted to discuss with you all before I end this entry: What name I chose for my new Betta fish! That's right, after owning the little dude for nearly a month, I've finally decided what his name should be --- Barely, though! #_#;

I'm still a wee bit unsure if I've picked the 'right' name for him, but since it keeps popping into my head nearly every time I think about it, not to mention every time I catch sight of him swimming about in his fishbowl, I've decided to just go with it. After all, over thinking a name can be just as bad as picking one willy nilly! >_<;

So, without further ado ... My new Betta's new name! O_O

;She presents said name by jumping onto the nearest elevated surface, whilst throwing her arms above her head and screaming it at a rather startling volume toward the Heavens.;

Brimstone!

That's right, I decided to go with Brimstone, after all! ^o^ Like I already said, it's the one name that kept popping into my head, time after time --- Whether I was sitting down with a pencil and a piece of paper writing out other name ideas, whether I was feeding him his daily meal, whether I was tidying up my room and happened to glance over at his fishbowl, or even when I wasn't near him or thinking about him at all --- So I think it's safe to say that this name is simply meant to be! ^^;

I wanna thank you all for suggesting so many creative name ideas of your own, though! Lemme tell you, I was seriously tempted to use quite a few of them ... And if it hadn't've been for the intensity of the name 'Brimstone', I probably would have! *^^*

So once again, a big thank you to all of you guys! You've no clue how happy your support makes me --- And since we're on the subject of support, I'd also like to take this moment to thank not just people who commented with name suggestions for Brimstone, but every last one of my visitors who regularly visit and take the time to read over my Updates/Blog entries, as well. ((Even those of you who're too shy to leave a comment, hehe. ^_~))

Thanks to you guys, mallorymaloney.com has begun to rack up over three hundred unique visitors per day --- Something that I've never experienced before, and something that I wouldn't be able to experience if it wasn't for your support! You all rock my black and white striped knee socks, and I'm not gonna forget this fact anytime soon.

;She blows everyone a kiss using just her middle finger, as opposed to the more conventional method of using one's entire hand.;

I fucking love every last one of you.

Heart.

  1. I love Michelle Phan. She's the only makeup guru I've found on YouTube that doesn't annoy the shit out of me. I actually used her Tim Burton makeup tutorial when I went to see Alice in Wonderland. :D

That's awesome to know that the scrub works though! I may have to try it just to see. I don't have a huge problem with my skin, but it's definitely worth a try.

  2. I am going to have to try out that facial scrub. I don't really have issues with dry skin too much but once in a while my chin and forehead (mainly after a shower) get really dry and icky. So i'll try it out soon. =)

Oh, and I totally LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the term "Darklings." It's so cute! It's pretty legendary if you ask me. Your imagination is amazing. =)

    xo; Amber Lynn

  3. Hello to you too, my dar(k)ling ;D

"Cursing myself and washing my armpits with more vehemence than before" -- it's segments like this that make me love you more than anyone else on the Interwebz, Moo. You are so fucking funny, and so blunt aswell, and it's so refreshing to see that on the WWW, because most people are pathetic :) Not you however. Not you.

Do you know what pisses me off about you gushing about your exfoliator? It sounds like magic, it really does. But NOTHING works on my skin. It'll work for like.. Two days. Then my skin will just be like 'Nah bled, can't be dealing wid dis shit' and refuses to be cool. Fortunately, I have naturally dry skin, but not in a flaky way. People always comment on how smooth my skin feels, and ask what I use. "I don't moisturise." is my secret, and "I don't wear foundation" is my secret for when they ask why I hardly ever get spots. It's good being me sometimes, but it's a pain in the ass that when I DO get spots and when my skin DOES get flaky, there's not a lot I can do about it :/

You've had Brimstone for nearly a month already (see how I am already referring to him by his name? ;D)?? Fuckin A, Mallory, where is my life going!?! I still would've called him 'Benderbadge' though, cause I'm cruel like that.

And about the support thing.. I want to thank YOU for having such a cute, funny and awesome site to escape to when my life becomes too annoying (as you know it often does). It's great that you're getting so many visitors now; you really deserve it. Although I can't help but feel a little bitter/jealous about it XD You know the score with my blog. 2000+ entries and I get comments from you and Lana (and occasionally a couple of others), and that's about it. And people probably don't read it. I'm not going to moan actually, cause I'll end up deleting my blog in a fit of rage then I'll cry. Cause, while I can delete my VF with just a pang of the heart, I don't think I could ever bring myself to delete almost three years of work, and 2000+ blogs. Gosh. I have no life.

";She blows everyone a kiss using just her middle finger, as opposed to the more conventional method of using one's entire hand.;"
It's funny that I actually do that in real life. This makes me love you more!

-- Kayleigh (your favourite internet person, hopefully :/)

  4. I think I've heard of that face scrub mixture before but I never got around to trying it. My face just gets nice and pimply so I'll give it a try! Neutrogena works pretty well but it just doesn't get rid of the dead skin and caked on makeup that likes to lodge itself in my pores.

With that many unique hits you should seriously look into making $ with your blog. There are ways you can do it without being sleazy, like you can write paid posts about stuff you actually like. As of yet, AGB only gets around 40 uniques a day and I have 18 RSS subscribers and the going rate for someone with that is $20/post. Seriously you should look into it. Sorry if all that sounded sales pitchy.

  5. I might try that scrub sometime, I have terrible skin. All dry and oily and spotty and bleh. XD I'll probably never get round to it though...I never get round to trying things like that. Maybe that's why my skin is so terrible, lmao.

Yay, Brimstone. That was my favourite of all the ones you said, haha. I used to have goldfish, and they all had really stupid names...there was Hubble + Bubble, then Splish + Splash, then Shimmer, Glimmer, Flash + Dash, and finally Flip and Flop. Yeah, none of them lasted very long(except Flip and Flop, they were 3 when they died a couple of months ago, but still). It's because Flip and Flop came from a half-decent pet shop. :3

300 unique visitors a day? Shit, that's a lot. XD I'm jealous, the most I've ever had in a day is 38...still, my site hasn't been around all that long(lame excuse, but hey). :L Congrats on that. *hifives*

  6. Oooohhh I've got to try that new face scrub method :D My skin isn't completely dry. It's actually a combination of oiliness and dryness so I guess I can use it on the dry spots instead.

And you got 300 hits!?!? Wow that's insane! congratulations!! You should really considering making money out of it. :D

  7. hm i dunno, a middle finger kiss? doesn't that... defeat the positive effects of the kiss? you, know, what with the negative connotations of the middle finger and all.
ah! BRIMSTONE! hooray! and i do agree that is quite a powerful sounding name. does your fish fight crime? he totally could with a name like that!

  8. Aww what a cute name for your fishy! It definitely fits with his color. Also, I love that you made your own scrub. It sounds like it smells delicious. I might try this out. I tried to do the egg white face mask and it made my skin so tight and dry! SO DON'T DO THAT ONE, haha. It was not a fun experience.

And Dove soap is amazing. When I had some issues with pimples when I was about 13, my doctor told me to use dove soap and it worked like a charm.

  9. I love darklings! I love giving visitors nick namews. I should get on that. maybe I could do smuffles and smufflettes or something :)

you have a nack for creative name giving. Brimstone is amazing. Mind if I borrow it for whatever pet i will eventually buy and name it that lol!

  10. Hahaha, I was on your site earlier after you started following me on Twitter and I was sitting here like "should I comment?" because you don't really know me, but BAM! you commented, so it's all dandy :)

DARKLINGS! I love it! Sounds like you had an interesting shower! ;)

I just looked at the Japanese emoticon thingys. I didn't realise there were so many faces that meant dead!! D:

WOW Homemade exfoliator? that's amazing, and so simple! I might give that a try, because I have terrible skin. My forhead and just beside my nose is so dry, I can't even wear makeup properly because it just looks ridiculous!

and it sounds like it leaves you smelling yummy ;)

Brimstone is an adorable name! :D

    HAII *waves*

Aww thankyouuuuu :D I absolutely adore your layout as well! I am a sucker for purple!

Haha, in the css you just make a div for the date, set the margin-left as -150px (or more/less depending on the layout) and then include the div around the date.
'K, that sounds more complicated than it actually is. If I get around to it, I'll make a tutorial on it ;)

OF COURSE I DID! I wasn't going to let her throw them! Besides, this red one (and the purple ones) are smexyyy ;)

Free stuff are the best you can get! WIN indeed!

aw thankyou! I mucho prefer yours though. Bats are love! <3

  11. Congrats on all the hits ^-^ Brimstone is a cute name for a fish of that colour :D

I feel similarly, like things need to get done but don't until it's a rather stressful situation - but at least you could accomplish finishing yet another entry. I can never stick to my schedule :p

  12. No, I'm not. =)) And to be honest, I didn't memorize the chords. I using tabs, instead. -cough- I'm too lazy to learn them.
That reminds me, a couple weeks ago I tuned the A-string of my guitar too tight, trying to tune my guitar to Drop C (which I shall NEVER attempt again), and BAM, it make a popping sound and broke. It took me forever trying to figure out how to replace it. So glad that my guitar came with extra strings.

I think the fucktard likes me, and at the same time I don't. I mean, he does it to everyone. A girl I know doesn't even like being touched my him. He has COLD fingers. Even in the hottest weather possible.
I've already hit him and tried to grab him by the neck, but apparently he doesn't get the message. Oblivious or in denial. "Because it's fun to stare at and make of you" my ass.

    ~

"Darkling" should be put on Urban Dictionary. Seriously.

HOLY SHIZ, that's a long list of Japanese emoticons!

I seriously need to try out that scrub. I already wash my face with salt water and rinse with tap water, but like you said, the dryness just makes my skin get more oily. I HATE having oily skin. It makes me feel so dirty. And now I have loads of tiny pimples all over my forehead. Good thing they're hidden behind my bangs.

    Brimstone sounds bee-yoo-ti-full.

  13. OMFG, THAT IS FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC! :D I love it so much! I think I will definitely try to make it like that. :D *loves you so much*

I'll comment on your blog soon. I'm too busy fawning over the example you made. <3

  14. Awe that's such a cute name for your fish. I think you picked a good name. It's it great to finally decide on a name for a bet.

Thanks for your comment on my site and all.

Yeah, the feelings suck but life goes on and shit happens. You have to learn to deal with it and that's what I'm doing. (:

  15. That scrub sounds amazing - I'm going to have to give it a try! Well, I'll put it on the stupidly long list of things to make/bake/try. I used to use a lot of Lush, but their stuff seems to have gone downhill whilst the prices have gone up. I switched to Trilogy skincare and absolutely swear by it now, but I enjoy playing with masks and scrubs so it can't hurt to try something homemade, right? ^__^

Brimstone is a good name. I must confess I liked all the names you were considering, but Brimstone's pretty damn fine.

I used to make A LOT of pixel dolls back in the day - I might see about re-uploading my old ones, and maybe playing about with some new ones. I was literally hooked on the things when I was about 14-16 ish. I don't know, maybe someone out there would find a use for them somehow.

Hope you're having a good weekend my dear!

  16. Whoa, first off... this layout is just kick-ass! I'm glad you changed it although the other one was stunning, too (:
You got a fish? :O Jealous! +_+ Is it colorful? :] I remember when I used to have pet fish... Goldy, Goldy jr., Goldy III, Goldy IV... err... and Goldhead. Not to mention "Freaky", a fish that had Halloween's two main colors-- black and orange...

  17. congrats on naming your betta, finally.and wow i didn't know aboutskin like that, unfortunaelt mine gets dry even in summer so maybe this will work for me there too.as for my easter layout it won't happen ive tried figuring it out but couldnt at all.until next time toodles

  18. Hey Mallory :) Long time...no comment. I disappeared but now I'm back with a new blog. Sorry for leaving you, worried and devastated...(haha) :P So how are you?!

My skin is so bad recently. Dry and pimply and generally ew. I don't even want to show my face in public. So I might actually try this, if it's worked so well for you! Seems simple enough...

Brimstone the betta. I like it :D

  19. Maybe that is why I have such dry skin. I use Ivory soap. I'll have to try Dove & then I am definately going to try that face scrub you talked about! Thanks!! Cute name for your Betta! I like it.

  20. Brimstone eh? Beautiful name.

Interesting skin items. :) I just use Cuticura. My family has been using it for ages. It works really well, we don't get pimples that bad, but my niece does because she don't use it. Shame on her.

I am sorry you couldn't get onto my site, I had problems with my wicked wordpress.

Thank you I am enjoying my phone. Hope you get a new phone, but that is a long time to have a phone. Mine never lasts that long, I may try to get this one to last that long though.

A response to your comment commenting my comment... (I like that. :))

It is really hard to read 1337, I know you look for things that has 1337 though. I just don't get it, I am so stupid sometimes. :)

Guessing you love vampires, hmmm how would I ever guess that? Maybe just maybe the bats, the twilight books, the colors, the creative way you think of things and perhaps typing these unusual ways down, or just a guess.

Yupp, you little genius book writer!

  21. Aw, thanks for your comment :) I love your site btw!
Wow 300 visitors a day? That's beyond amazing, I can only dream I could make my site that popular!

  22. Hello Brimstone! I'm glad you have finally found a fitting name and one that you like too. If you wanted to be super idiotic, you would name poor Brimstone with twenty-odd middle names using the other names you liked... much like how my parents gave me two (long but admittedly gorgeous) middle names. ;)

I haven't heard of the brand Ivory. But as a matter of fact, my mum has been buying me Dove soap especially for my face. Handily enough it has exfoliating beads, but I don't really need to exfoliate! :P

But that homemade exfoliator sounds wonderful! I used extra virgin olive oil for my lips when they went super dry. Worked when I ran out of lip balm!

As for my own skin, it is usually dry around my eyes and nose but my forehead is oily and prone to pimples. :/ The joys of combination skin. -_-

I hope you get your hands on that magazine since Billie Joe will be on it!

And not to worry - I loved your greeting and I haven't seen anyone use darklings yet! ;)

Congratulations on the 300 hits! I never really pay attention to any of mine but that's about how many unique hits I get daily, too. :B

  23. Thanks so much! All your opinions on my website make me feel so fuzzy inside. :D

Your website is amazingly stellar as well! :D

Whew, thanks. I actually exceeded my expectations on my tap dance exam! Yay! x3

Darklings. That's really cute, matches the layout, LOL.

OMG, I have the same exact problem with my skin! It's always extremely oily around my forehead, chin, and nose, but dry everywhere else, with zits. I just use Neutrogena, but it doesn't really do anything. :P I'll have to try that! Sounds really effective and extremely simple to make, so that's a plus. (:

Brimstone is a beautiful name! I love it! :D It fits a fish, you know? If it were like another animal, like a dog, it probably wouldn't fit too well. :3

  24. LOL, oh and the glowy effect was just some CSS :P You know all the text-shadow junk? I just added an extra attribute to it that blurs it. (:

  25. Lmao all that to come up with a greeting?
I never really think about opening my blogs, I just get straight in. xP

Ooh that sounds like a good idea I might try it. I'm pretty basic when it comes to skin care and such; I just buy stuff from the shops and use it xP

Brimstone is definitely a good name (:

  26. Aha, darklings sounds so cute ^_^
Aw the emo kids are even cuter!! *steals a few*
Ooh that exfoliator sounds lovely. Although it's not dry skin I have a problem with, my skin gets very oily, especially my forehead as I have a full fringe. :) DOVE SOAP! YAAY! I love that stuff. It's great everywhere. <3

I got LOADS of pictures, all on my phone, as I couldn't find my camera at home. :( I'll have to upload them to facebook, or eventually install coppermine and upload them then. :) I'll let you know when I have. :D I love art, don't worry. :) I have my final hour tomorrow afternoon though! eeeek. :{ x

  27. What is love

    Baby dont hurt me

    Dont hurt me

    No MORE

    Reply From Mallory:
    LMAO! You're such a weirdo, Nate. ^u^

  28. "Darklings" is very cool, and something I think I've read in a Stephen King novel before.

I think it's cool Billy Joe Armstrong is going to be in the gay and lesbian lifestyle magazine!! it's always nice to see straight people support gays.

I've always wanted to make my own exfoliating/moisturising facial scrub; maybe one day I'll get around to it.

Brimstone is a nice name. I'm sure your little pal will love it!

  29. you can pick up your easter gift now

  30. P.S - I'm so glad so like my photography. thank you for your wonderful comment. my camera is in fact a Canon Rebel XT...how did you know?

  31. Brimstone is such a cool name. I'm going to try the sugar scrub recipe, you should put it up on its own page with pics! :)

  32. Cute name! Brimstone, brimstone.

I've used EVOO eveeeerrryywhere. It's also a great hair conditioner (put it in & leave it for 10 minutes or so, shampoo it out.) and shaving oil (you have to rinse out your razor a lot more, but it makes your legs sooooooo smooth.)
