Minasan konnichiwa! ^o^

If your Japanese is a little on the rusty side, no worries. I simply greeted you all with a 'Hello, everyone! ^o^' But if you feel like derusting your Japanese a little, ((Or if you're a creeper and just want to hear my voice,)) Click here to find out how to properly pronounce the phase. ^_~ Don't feel afraid to repeat it aloud yourself a few times --- That's said to be one of the best ways to remember a phrase in another language!

Now after that mentally enlightening yet mentally exhausting experience, I'm sure you're ready to just relax and check out today's update, aren't you? Don't bother answering that, 'cause I've already decided you are! ^_^

And yes, you read the word 'update' correctly. Unfortunately there's only one today, as I've been pretty busy with Halloween preparation* since the last entry ... Although this update is pretty decent! What I did was update all of the photographs and most of the accompanying descriptions on the Room page --- Only after I spent the entirety of 19 October cleaning said room from top to bottom in preparation for the new photos I was planning to take! ((Nothing to do with the fact I hadn't properly cleaned it since 2008 ... >_>))

But if I can't provide you guys with an assload of entertaining updates, I can still provide you with an assload of entertainment via the blog segment of this entry, right ...? Right!

The first entertaining story is about a mishap that took place late yesterday afternoon, while I was getting ready to go out for a bit. I was in the bathroom, having just brushed my teeth and washed my face, and I was in the process of reapplying my eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara, lip colour, and so on.

Halfway through, I decided I would curl my lashes before slapping on the mascara, as I usually do, so I grabbed my ancient eyelash curler, ((I believe it used to be my Mum's long before I even knew what an eyelash curler was ... But that's another story, one which I'll get to after this one's finished,)) And leaned close to the mirror as I clamped down on my eyelashes.

After waiting approximately fifteen seconds, I opened the eyelash curler and moved it away from my eyelid. That is, I tried to move it away from my eyelid.

Apparently Mr Ancient Eyelash Curler had different plans. Plans that involved him clamping himself to my eyelashes and then not letting go. Call me insane, but I'm pretty sure this isn't normal eyelash curler behaviour.

'Oh, for fuck's sake. Oh, fuck.' I swore under my breath at Mr Ancient Eyelash Curler. After a few more seconds of this, I decided that boxing his ears wasn't going to make him let go and hop obediently away, so I gave the curler a little tug. Nothing seemed to happen, so I tugged more firmly. This time, the only thing that happened was my eyelid stretched outward and a single eyelash was pulled out of my lash line. I winced a little at this, then took a closer look in the mirror.

'Oh, fuck.' I whispered again to the little metal bastard, seeing that at least five of my lashes on the outer corner of my eye were firmly stuck in the beauty tool/torture device. Switching hands, I began to pry out the little rubber piece that clamps down on your lashes, ((Which occasionally falls out on its own,)) And hoping that they were perhaps wedged under that.

They weren't.

They were instead firmly jammed into a minuscule metal joint on the curler, and they were absolutely not tugging loose, no matter how hard I pulled. Beginning to panic, eye half closed, I stumbled from the bathroom and felt my way blindly downstairs, 'Um, you guys?' I called out to my brothers, who were the only ones downstairs at that moment. 'I'm, uh, in a bit of a conundrum here.'

My eleven year old brother, Craig, took one look at ol' Mr Ancient Eyelash curler attached to my eyelid and immediately got a rather sick look on his face, so I knew he was going to be of no help. I turned to my other brother, seventeen year old Cameron, and explained my little situation to him.

'I've got it,' he said, nodding in a sage manner.

'Yeah?' I asked hopefully, looking similar, I imagined, to a character caught in a Saw trap.

'Yeah.' He responded. 'It's simple. We just cut your eyelashes free.'

'What?!' I yelped. 'But ... But I like my eyelashes! I can't just cut half of them off! They're one of my best features!'

'Yeah, eyelashes are cool and everything, but you can't walk around forever with that attached to them.' He replied, in an annoyingly sensible manner.

I sighed in semi despair and turned away from him, moving to the mirror next to the front door to examine the eyelash curler once again. 'Never mind, I'll just --- Hey!' I cut off myself in surprise.

'What?' Cameron asked curiously.

'I got it off!' I turned around to face him, holding Mr Asshole Eyelash Curler far away from my face --- He had miraculously come free from my lashes of his own accord!

I still have no clue how this managed to happen, but to be honest, I didn't care. I was just glad to toss the little fucker directly into the nearest garbage container so I could get back to slathering on a fuckload of black eyeliner.

... So I guess the moral of this story is not to use your mother's eyelash curlers from 1457 or whenever. o_O;

And now for the second eyelash curler story I mentioned earlier! When I was about fifteen years old, I happened to notice something on the TV. An episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show was on, and I noticed Ellen was doing something to her eyelashes with some sort of handheld metal contraption.

Frowning, I turned up the volume and watched. Ellen was saying something about how she liked to 'hold hers for one one thousand, two one thousand, three one thousand, four one thousand, five one thousand ...' and she continued on for an inappropriate amount of time while the audience laughed in appreciation.

Having not heard anything Ellen had said before this, I came up with the only possible explanation --- The metal contraption she was holding was clearly some new fangled beauty tool that clipped away those unsightly and undesirable long eyelashes! That's obviously why she was counting for an over extended period of time, I thought. She's playing up the fact that everyone must feel nervous clipping their eyelashes the first few times.

Why anyone would want to clip off their eyelashes, I wasn't quite sure, but the world's always been obsessed with strange beauty methods, especially if said beauty method is currently 'in', so I figured it had to be something like that.

It wasn't until several years later, seeing my mother use Mr Ancient Eyelash Curler himself, that I figured it out. And even then, I had to ask what she was doing, and what the metal contraption was called. Thinking back, I can only shake my head in pity over the ignorance of my younger self.

But then again, I never truly started 'getting into' the finer details of makeup and beauty tools until just this year, really --- So I suppose I can't pity my fifteen year old beauty knowledge too much, haha. Besides, I was too busy watching Pokémon and climbing trees and doing crafts and reading Animorphs books to even care about makeup related things!

Thankfully, though, I'm much more mature than I used to be. I mean, I still watch Pokémon and climb trees and do crafts and read Animorphs books ... But now I manage the time I spend on each of these activities so I have a few minutes to spare for beauty erudition, as well. ^_^

I am, quite clearly, the epitome of maturity.

*Don't miss the next Updates/Blog entry, as it's going to feature some more new photos of said Halloween prep! ^_~

Mallory

  1. Hah, yeah, I probably should have put up that hiatus message after all. I'm back now though! :D

I agree, it's just not fair! Ah well, I'll be done soon enough, and then I can relax all I want. :) Well, to a certain extent.

Heh, that first eyelash curler story actually made me laugh out loud. I loved Cameron's comment about how eyelashes are cool and all but... ;P Funny! Thank god it ended up coming off of it's own accord.

Thanks! I hope you've been well too. :)

  2. Mmm, I love your room! It makes me happy happy, but where are the pictures of Green Day that I sent you?? ;D

Haha, I hate eyelash curlers with a passion. I do not trust them with my gorgey eyelashes you see.

This comment is really short, I know. I apologise, but I'm sat at college having a sneezing fit and it's all very embarrassing.

  3. Ahh entertaining blogpost!

I had a look at your room photos, it looks quite nice although I would want mine a bit more colour-y not just a lot of black and white I guess!

I've never used an eyelash curler. My cousin showed me one last Summer and asked me if I wanted to use it and I was like .. No ! And she asked me if I was feeling scared but argh, I just don't think that my eyelashes would look good if they were too curled up!

And yay for Halloween preparations ! It's not my favorite holiday but I like it all the same. :)

  4. which is why, consealer, pwder, mascara, lip gloss and eye shadow are the only beauty things on my face

  5. xD, Sorry, but your story is too funny! I admit it, I giggled. If my brother had seen me like that he would have laughed his ass off, yours seem suspiciously helpful... I guess little brothers are more inclined to be than older ones, huh? I suppose you'll have to buy a new one now, a forced update xD.
I can't wait to see more of your Halloween decorations, I'm sure they'll be awesome! You're like a hardcore Martha Stewart LMAO

  6. Funny enough, those are about half the words I know in Japanese! Another word I know is sushi >_< haha

I love your super mario plush! And totally love your My Little Pony shelf! Yup, we're totally mature ;)

Anyways, moving on... I loved the eyelash curling stories! I hope you didn't try to cut them after the Ellen show though! I used to watch my Aunt use the curler and just thinking how it looked scary. I'm still a little scared of how it looks, almost like eyelash braces if that doesn't sound too stupid... I love my eyelashes as well but for now I'm still scared to use a curler! But thankfully it kinda just came off, you got to get a new one!

I'm super excited for Halloween with no idea of what to be! I wish I had come up with a cool costume ahead of time so I could have started working on it sooner!

  7. I don't know if it's me, or if my comments are dangerous, but I never see them after I click to post 'em, haha

  8. LOL at your eyelash curlers story, it's kinda random xD That musta been kinda scary though o_o; I use eyelash curlers and I somehow have mascara stuck onto them, and I have no idea how because I use the curlers BEFORE applying mascara :S Hmmm I am confused now.

Oh, by the way I saw Green Day on Monday and they were FUCKING AMAZING XD Well you should know that they were fucking amazing even though you weren't there but I know how much you love them :P One of the guys they pulled up on stage was mental and he started whacking his head on Tre's symbols XD And the guy they pulled up to 'save' was like 55 years old and everyone was expecting him to be like 9 xD Sorry am I rambling abit..? o_o I shall stop.

PS. I still watch Pokémon toooooo :D The old Pokémon, of course :P I hate the new Pokémon with a passion. >:( >:( >:( *rage*

PPS. Animorph books? OHYEAH. I've never read them but I was in my school library once and I was looking at books that I could read (well, stick a magazine in front of them so it LOOKS like I was reading ;]) and I found those Animorph thingies and I actually got a fright when I took the book out of the shelf cos it was a human turning into an animal so I was all WTFFFF. I've never read them though but I may now because now that I think about it, humans turning into animals sounds cool. (: ack, sorry for rambling AGAIN. I must stop this habit D:

  9. WOW! That really sucks about the eye lash curler. I would freak out to if someone told me I had to cut my eyelashes, but I'm glad it ended with you keeping yours. It's funny that you thought Ellen was clipping her eye lashes. I used to think they were mini-curling irons.

  10. no problem and thanks, many people havent ocmmented on it

  11. It's actually 'tomodachi konnichiwa' XD You're supposed to address the audience first :P I do Japanese at school in case you're wondering where my knowledge comes from ;P

    D; I hate loosing eyelashes! whenever I wear eye make up I always loose a few >_> sucks really bad D;

haha I used to watch Pokemon too! until I couldn't be bothered waking up early to watch it on TV LOL.

    I don't bother wearing make up unless I'm going to a party or for some other special occasion. I don't want to loose all my eyelashes D;

    Reply From Mallory:
    Ack! @_@; Thanks so much for the correction on my shoddy Japanese, Tiffany! To be on the safe side, I recorded an entirely new greeting in replacement of 'konnichiwa tomodachi', considering the Japanese rarely go around calling a group of other people 'friends', anyway. e_e;

  12. Thanks! How are you?

  13. Konnichiwa Mallory! Genki desu ka?

Hahaha, my Japanese is indeed rustic. I haven't touched it for 2 years now. LOL.

Honestly, I feel like removing the starry bits. It looks a bit off...

Anyway, I'm sorry about the incident you had with Mr Ancient Eyelash Curler. Ughh, I suggest you get rid it..

Ooh, I never thought of the WordPress upgrade as part of security thing. I've had bad time with upgrading (plus the fact that I'm too lazy to edit the whole layout thing). Hehehe~~

  14. Hahaha your eyelash curler story made me ROFL! Doesn't sound like a too fun situation though!

  15. LOLOLOLLLL OMG. This blog was a joy to read. I'm sorry about your poor eyelashes.

But fuck. I have to share with you my discovery of my mum's ancient eyelash curler too. It's got these crummy yellow handles and that spongy bit. And the whole thing pretty much looks ancient too.

I have never tried it myself. My mum tried it once on me and I was wondering how the hell it worked. I was like WHAT? You're going to trap my fucking eyelid in that?!?!?!

Love the fact there was a sick look on your brother's face. At least your other brother was slightly wise, but he doesn't understand a woman's need for eyelashes. :P

I recently cleaned my room. The day before an assignment. That was dumb. -_-

But I haven't *properly* vacuumed since January.

    Awww, thank you. :)

LOL. Sure thing. I must get him to make a list. I'm sure you could find some ripped-off ones from the internet, hahahhohoh.

  16. EXACTLY! yay someone else who agrees~
hehe, I would cancel it but I want to go so that the doctor can tell me I'm completely normal so I can prove her wrong :3 My mum tried to complain to my school, but the guidance teacher wasn't in so she's gonna complain on Monday cos she's reaaaaally pissed off at her :P

OMG PIKACHU, THATS SUCH A GOOD IDEAAAA. ^o^
I'm gonna see if I can find anything that I could use for Pikachu & I am deffo considering it =D you have good halloweeny ideas xD

  17. Awwhh! That must hurt. Its kind of random, I've never had that happen to me. I hate eyelash curlers though, my mom makes me use them and its so annoying. Like really, must I fold my eyelashes in funky ways to make them look 'curly' ? (:
Yes. I am writing about my school.
I will telll you when it's published ;)
    Ahaha yeah same here(:

  18. Hahaha! Oh gosh, this made me laugh. :) Good story, really. I've had some similar horror stories involving make up tools, so I feel you, really.

Your room is still fabulous. :D

Anyhow, yeah. I really DID mean what I wrote in my last comment. One thing I stand by strongly is honestly. And not just the No Lies philosophy, but in the Never Be Fake sense. I was definitely not just saying those things to be nice.

I'll definitely post a photo of my new glasses the next time I update. :) Which actually should be this week! I'm going on a little Colorado trip on Tuesday, so that *may* spawn an update.

    We'll see. ;)

  19. XD Omg, I can only imagine how much that hurt! I'm sure the writers for Saw will be sending you a letter really soon.

  20. Haha sorry about the no tagboard thing, but I've been really busy and stuff.
I know how to pronounce KONICHIWA, actually. The Japanese/Taiwanese wave has hit our school, and yeah.

  21. New layout! ^_^

  22. Ahh, I never get tired of the way you write. XD

God, that would scare the crap out of me. I don't wear makeup at all, and I would probably cry from being so freaked out (although that might be an anxiety disorder talking... I have to wait and see :P).

When I first saw someone using an eyelash curler, it was in seventh grade at school, and I was like, "WTF IS SHE DOING?!" (well, not like that... I was very innocent then) because her eyes were wide open and she had the big metal thing so close to her eyes. I think it's freaky to see. :P

  23. Whoa, a 10,000 word blog entry? What was it about?

Thank you! And I agree, writing is a great output. I can tell you think so by letting out your frustration with that eyelash curler.

Which is really weird, btw, I mean for an eyelash curler to actually get stuck on your lashes? Geez, it must have been rusty. Now that just strengthens my fear of using eyelash curlers. But I really want to buy one. Haha, go figure.

Actually, I did repeat the Japanese! My friend is teaching me some Korean, and I just keep repeating what she says till she says I'm kind of getting the accent.

Can't wait for more Halloween pics!

  24. I haven't really gotten gung ho about the details of beauty until this year either, and I'm the ripe old age of 24. I haven't even used an eyelash curler yet, the thought of something grabbing my eyelashes like that just feels weird to me.

Your blogs are always fun to read. :D

  25. I loooove clearing old things out! That being said, I never actually do... I'm the mood for a big clear out now! Meh I'll save it for a rainy(er) day.

I could never use eyelash curlers. After your story, I never will use them. I don't know what it is about them, they're so weird! They freak me out. I'll stick to my beloved Rimmel London "Glam Eyes" waterproof mascara thank you. :)

I wasn't exactly allowed to sit on his shoulders...but breaking rules is fun. I got a few songs worth of seeing for miles, then a security person made their way to us (because we were right in the middle of the standing) and I had to stand like a normal person (his words). :)

  26. You reminded me that I really need to clean my room. There's stuff on the floor that I meant to move a few months ago but never got round to it. I better do it in this holiday.

OMG. Your eyelash curlers really did that?? I wasn't aware that they could get stuck, but then again I've only used mine about once so...

Glad it came free without forcing you to cut your eyelashes off. I can't really imagine how people'd look without eyelashes. Would be a bit strange.

As for the Ellen DeGeneres story... LOL! I love watching Ellen, but we're behind by about a year with the episodes here in England. Still, hilarious story.

Can't wait for your Halloween entry. It's this Saturday! Woo!
    xx
