History
I suppose mallorymaloney.com really first began in 2001; When I stumbled across an Ash Ketchum fan site. I had a giant crush on Ash, as well as an obsession with Pokémon at the time, so I was very impressed and inspired by this particular fan site, which was called My Dear Ash Ketchum.
In fact, I was so inspired, I decided to open up an Ash Ketchum fan site of my own! ^^; I began working on it, and opened it the same year I discovered My Dear Ash Ketchum.
My Ash fan site was called Gotta Ketchum All!, and it was hosted on Angelfire. One day, I was updating the 'Webmistress' pages, and all of a sudden I thought: 'I don't want all of these pages about me clogging up my Ash Ketchum site anymore ... I'll make a separate site just about me!'
And so the simply named, Angelfire hosted site Mallory Maloney was opened late in the year of 2002. Just before I opened Mallory Maloney, I began to lose interest in Pokémon --- So Gotta Ketchum All! was closed on 15 December 2002; And I was thoroughly enjoying owning a personal site/'online diary', as they used to be called. Personal sites were few and far apart back then, but my crappy little site got a fair amount of hits regardless. ^^; ((Which, might I mention, I was insanely proud of.))
But then, one morning when I went to visit my site, ((As I did every morning,)) It was gone! Angelfire had deleted all of my files, since I had been using 'ad blocker' codes; Which, of course, was against their policy. But the shitty part was, I had completely forgot I was using them, since they didn't even work in the first place. I was devastated over having lost my site, and thinking of giving up completely ... But I really wanted Mallory Maloney back.
So I started fresh, after my Dad kindly offered to host my site on his business domain, FirstKey.Net. All was fine in Mallory Maloney land for awhile, but then ... Dad ran out of space on his domain, and I was unable save any changes I made to my site as a result. I, being a complete n00b, decided it was an unfixable error having to do with our shitty computer.
So another move was in store, and this time Mallory Maloney got a combination of FreeWebs and GeoCities, since FreeWebs only allowed fifty files, and GeoCities gave you next to no bandwidth.
But the main reason for the dual accountage, was the fact that I insisted on following the FreeWebs Terms Of Service exactly --- Namely the section that stated only one account per individual was allowed, and that if you disregarded this rule, they had the right to delete all of your accounts without warning. I was terrified of losing my site again, so I turned into an avid rule follower! o_O; Now that I think back, though, it was against the GeoCities Terms Of Service to use your account as a 'file storage' system, which was basically what I was doing ... So I don't know how I justified that, exactly. At any rate, I began backing up my entire site to our computer, even if I made the smallest change. ((Which, actually, is a very smart practice.))
Finally, though, my Dad had to buy more space for FirstKey.Net; And so I immediately moved Mallory Maloney back. That was quite a relief, let me tell you! Free hosts always have something the matter with them, whether it's a dodgy Terms Of Service, not enough bandwidth, annoying ads, or slow servers, so I was very happy to be back on FirstKey.Net.
In 2004, still hosted at FirstKey.Net, I started bugging my Dad about getting a domain, as Mallory Maloney was improving and growing constantly. And I, being picky, didn't want my Dad's suggestion of a free redirection domain --- I wanted a real domain; http://www.mallorymaloney.com/, to be exact. It was what I had always wanted!
I kept on bugging my Dad day in, day out ... And finally I was granted permission! I purchased the domain alone for $15.00 a year, from BulkRegister.Com. ((Via AZRiver.Com, FirstKey.Net's host,)) Opting to stay hosted at FirstKey.Net, since I didn't have very much money at the time. I had started my first job, but I was saving every penny to go toward my own computer. Gone was the title Mallory Maloney, and in its place was the much more impressive and aptly named mallorymaloney.com. ^u^
Next, in early 2005, I decided I wanted to buy my own space, as opposed to being hosted on FirstKey.Net, so I decided to dip into my computer fund. From AZRiver.Com, I purchased the one hundred and fifty megabytes package, which was around $150.00 per year --- Not cheap at all, and this began to become a problem.
Thankfully, near the end of 2005, my Dad's friend Kyle helpfully hosted mallorymaloney.com for free on his server! And all was well until November of 2006 ... When suddenly, I had to switch hosts yet again. Kyle was losing interest in the webmaster scene, and was going to give up his server. @_@ So I started researching different hosts online, until I came across one that sounded promising --- CanadianWebHosting.Com.
I signed up, and they turned out to be an utterly fantastic host --- Plus their packages were very reasonably priced! I ended up purchasing five hundred megabytes of space, and ten gigabytes of bandwidth per month --- For a mere $3.95 a month! O_O;
Quite obviously, I'm still very happily hosted by CanadianWebHosting.Com --- And I recommend them to anyone, Canadian or otherwise! If you're looking for a fast, reliable, reasonably priced host with excellent customer service; CanadianWebHosting.Com is for you. *^^*
And that, my fine friends, completes the history of mallorymaloney.com so far! ^_~
